Blend, LIC’s premier Latin Fusion restaurant, offers a relaxing and sexy ambiance, excellent service, and an extensive menu at recession-conscious prices. Dim lighting and softly playing music cue the perfect romantic evening, while red-brick walls adorned with colorful modern paintings provide an urban edge to it’s interior. Start off the meal with Blend’s delectable “Tapatizers” ($3-9) – one option being the Taco Trio, which arrives beautifully presented and includes chicken, pernil and braised beef, served with pico de gallo, avocado, and cotija cheese, all lightly drizzled with sour cream. Another alternative is the Pollo y Queso Croquetes- which have a mouth-watering cheesy interior and delicously deep-fried exterior. The indecisive diner can try the Tapatizer Sampler ($18) which includes chicharrones de pollo, maduros, coconut shrimp, fried calamari and empanadas.
Now for the main course. The dinner menu boasts the traditional Latin cuisine, with a fun and savory twist. Options include seafood (everything from Paella to Moqueca), meats (including Pollo ala Plancha, Churrasco, Mango Chicken, and Lomo Saltado) and for the less adventurous- Cuban sandwiches, Burgers, and Burritos (vegan or meat). The Ropa Vieja (savory shredded beef cooked to perfection) is served over maduros and tightly wrapped in a makeshift “bowl” of fried plantains. On the other hand, the Bistec de Palomilla, topped with sautéed onions and served with white rice, black beans, & potatoes- has a disappointing texture (be prepared to chew for awhile). Extra sides are only $3 each, if you’re left craving tostones or papas fritas. Let’s not forget drinks! Try their Sangria (red or white, and sweet enough you’ll want more than one) or go for something atypical- the Mango Bellini (tasty combo of both sweet and tart). Overall, the portions are perfect- you’ll leave satisfied but wearing the same size pants you arrived in. The entire meal is presented like a piece of art-except when the check arrives you won’t break the bank. Blend also offers Nightly Specials (Monday-Thursday)- with some great choices, where for an extra $8 an appetizer can be added to the meal. Quite a deal.
